The Centre for Disaster Preparedness and Management (CDPM) at the University of Peshawar and the Implementation Support Unit (ISU) of the Directorate of Elementary and Secondary Education, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with technical and financial support from UNICEF, commemorated International Disaster Risk Reduction Day at the University of Peshawar.The primary objective of the event was to engage children and youth in climate change advocacy and raise awareness among the general public about recurrent disasters, instilling a sense of responsibility among citizens and policymakers. This year’s theme, “Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future,” was showcased through models displayed by students from various schools and departments, highlighting critical issues such as pollution, deforestation, ecosystem disruption, fire hazards, earthquakes, landslides, floods, climate change, and disaster risk reduction.

The event was graced by Dr. Shumaila Rauf, Dean of the Faculty of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Peshawar, as the chief guest. Other distinguished attendees included UNICEF’s Education Specialist Syed Fawad Ali Shah, CDPM Director Dr. Zulfiqar Ali, ISU Director Programs Syeda Laila Jaffry, delegates from the United Nations and INGOs, students and teachers from the University Campus.
