16th LEG Meeting

Implementation Support Unit Directorate E&SED Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peshawar participated in the 16th meeting of the Local Education Group LEG Meeting ESED KP that was held at ESED Secretariat Peshawar under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for ESED Mr. Faisal Tarakai. The key implementing partners, donors, and representatives of the department of ESED Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated in the meeting. The LEG members endorsed the activities for the GPE-funded program (2024-2028) having a total worth of $23.624 Million. UNICEF is the grant agent of the program and the management of GA has committed to ensuring 100 % transparency and accountability for the overall well-being and better educational opportunities for children of KP while implementing the grant. It was decided that on the analogy of the Population census, a detailed and verifiable survey for out-of-school children will be conducted by the Elementary and Secondary Education departments with technical support from the Bureau of Statistics so that appropriate measures could be placed accordingly. NCHD Pakistan vowed to fully assist the education department KP through focused enrolment campaigns in April and September each year and presented a detailed presentation for the steps to be taken under the Education Emergency in the country, as declared by the prime minister of Pakistan. NCHD will be allocated a specific district on a pilot basis, where efforts will be made to ensure 100% enrollment of children of school-going age. It was also decided that concrete steps to be taken to involve the local communities actively in improving schooling governance, similarly special focus will be paid to safeguarding aspects in educational institutions because it has a vital role in retention and access to education. The minister for Education KP thanked the implementing partners and donor agencies for their superlative work in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and stressed the need for effective and timely collaboration, cooperation, coordination, and synchronization to avoid duplication of efforts and resources. He shared that by keeping in view the huge number of out-of-school children, innovative and low-cost approaches are to be adopted to reach out to a considerable number of out-of-school children. He said that education for girls is among the government’s top priorities. He was optimistic that we could do a lot if there was sincerity, devotion, and commitment toward the noble cause of Education.
